10 mistakes most people make when they upgrade their lighting (1/2).
Want to upgrade your lighting? Don't do anything until you look at the 10 mistakes most people make with new LED lighting.
1. They buy lights with different light distribution
This probably is the most common problem with upgrades. LED lights and lamps tend to have more directional output. So, for example, if you use halogen lamps instead of halogen downlights, you can reduce the overflow light. This kind of overflow lamp is actually very useful, for example, for lighting walls in hotel corridors. Similarly, if you swap fluorescent lights with LEDs lights, you can end the first third of the wall in the shadow.
The best way to avoid it: buy samples first.
2 .They buy lights that are too dark or too bright
If you are considering a similar replacement of fluorescent lamps with LED light fixtures, please don't just match the light output of fluorescent lamps (in lumens or lumens). Since LED lights are directional, you may get more light from LED lamps. But be aware that the light output on the data sheet may be exaggerated, and different light distributions can make the room look very dark.
The best way to avoid it: buy products from reputable China led lighting manufacturers, check samples against existing lamps or test samples in the laboratory.
3.The lamp they bought is too cold
The color temperature of the lamp is measured in Kelvin. Incandescent lamp is 2700K, and halogen lamp is 3200K. If you replace them with 5000K LEDs, your space will look very cold. Asia people prefer to use cool white LED lighting products because it is their cultural preference and it is easier to make more efficient LED lighting lamps at cool color temperatures.
The best way to avoid it: check the specifications and buy samples.
4.The lights they bought will make the color dull and dull
The color rendering index or CRI measures the ability of light to render colors. As a general rule, you want lights led with a CRI of 80 or better 90. A particular weakness of LED lights is the R9 (red) value, because this is not included in the CRI measurement. Make sure to exceed 80, otherwise the red will look cloudy and dull.
The best way to avoid it: ask the supplier for the CRI value. If they do not supply, please doubt.
5 They buy lights that are not compatible with dimmers
On dimmers designed for incandescent or halogen lamps, LED lights do not always dim smoothly. In fact, at low levels, they usually flicker and flicker. This is because incandescent lamps and halogen lamps provide standard resistive loads for dimmers, and LED circuits make it messy, and sometimes two groups of electronic devices are competing for dominance, leading to component failures.
The best way to avoid it: You need to use an LED light to test the dimmer or add a "fake load", such as an incandescent lamp.
Let's check other five mistakes in next article. Thanks.
