10 mistakes most people make when they upgrade their lighting (6-10).
We shared common mistakes 1-5 in last article, below are mistakes 6-10:
6. They do not check the supplier
In the past few years, a large number of new LED lighting suppliers have entered the market. It is worth reviewing them. Are they a reputable brand? Are they members of industry associations such as led lighting industry associations? How long have they been in the led lighting market? Do they test their led products at a reputable testing agency? Do they physically exist in your country?
The best way to avoid it: check it online and ask around.
7. They did not get a reasonable warranty
Will the supplier give you a warranty for their led lamps? Will they honor the warranty there? Does the warranty period exceed the supplier’s business? Look at the fine print. Sometimes the burning time is limited, and sometimes you must register online within 90 days to "activate" the warranty. Grrrrr!
Best way to avoid: Find a reliable led light manufacturer, read the warranty (and our warranty list)
8. They buy light lamps led that will not last
The generally agreed rated life of an LED light is the point at which its light output drops to 70% of its initial output, called L70. For example, you might see that the L70 has a rated life of 50,000 hours. Again, the sales literature is full of optimistic ratings. And there is the phenomenon of "early failure"-accessories that will fail shortly after installation.
The best way to avoid it: Ask the supplier for their test results based on the L70 rating for led light source.
9. They have no installation of 'future proof'
Suppose one of your fixtures expires within 18 months. You call the supplier to get a replacement, and he or she says:'We no longer manufacture this model-we can provide our latest model'. Please note that the latest model may be very different from the model on the ceiling. Somthing more worse is that you cannot control the company because it no longer exists.
The best way to avoid it: If it's critical, buy additional led lamps as spare parts.
10. They got too many glare led lights
With LEDs, the glare problem is back, especially in the office. LED panels usually provide all the light on the diffuse surface of the luminaire, rather than deep inside the louver system, resulting in too much light. The Uniform Glare Index (UGR) is a digital method used to define the brightness of the led lamp in the installation, which should be lower than 19.
Best way to avoid: UGR in computer rendering, or ask the vendor for their installation examples based on UGR ratings.
