Hope the roads around Beijing Nanyuan Airport will light up
It was pitch black, with large trucks whizzing by, and pedestrians and cyclists who couldn't see clearly on the side of the road... At night, citizens driving through the roads around Nanyuan Airport were in fear. It has been almost two years since Nanyuan Airport ended civil aviation operations. The reporter visited the surrounding South Fifth Ring Road, Huangyi Road, South Central Axis Road, and Xingyi Road and found that these roads that were not equipped with street lights in order not to affect aircraft takeoff and landing are still dark and civic. Hope the roads here will light up at night.
South Fifth Ring Road, near 9 kilometers without LED lights
At 20:30 on August 26, the reporter drove from east to west along the South Fifth Ring Road. After driving through the old bridge and the new bridge, a yellow warning sign of "Please be careful when entering a road with no streetlights 50 meters ahead" appeared. The dividing line between light and dark is very obvious here. Although there are hints, the sudden change in road lighting makes it difficult to adapt quickly. It was almost at the South Bridge of Xihongmen before the street LED lights appeared again. From the map, the road section of the South Fifth Ring Road without LED streetlights was about 9 kilometers long.
Due to the weak light, some drivers had to turn on the high beams after entering the road section. When encountering a position where the isolation belt in the middle of the road lacks a light-shielding plate, the high beam headlights will directly illuminate the oncoming vehicle. At the same time, many corners, many cars, and fast speeds also challenge drivers. Even in the middle of the night, the lanes of the Fifth Ring Road are still in constant traffic, with small passenger cars and large trucks speeding. The reporter observed on a crossover bridge near Tuanhe Road. Within two minutes, 32 large trucks passed by.
"There was no light on this section of the road when it was opened more than ten years ago, in order not to affect the takeoff and landing of aircraft at Nanyuan Airport." An employee of a gas station on the South Fifth Ring Road told reporters that compared with the initial period of opening, the traffic volume on the South Fifth Ring Road has increased rapidly. There are also a lot of large trucks.
Huangyi Road, unlighted section 5.6 kilometers
Huangyi Road is located on the south side of Nanyuan Airport. It is a secondary road. The unlighted section from Donghuan Road to Jingtai Expressway is about 5.6 kilometers long. At 21 o'clock that day, the reporter saw at the fork of Huangyi Road leading to Dabailou Village that there was no light source for vehicles passing by, and the road was pitch black. From time to time, muck trucks drove out from nearby construction sites, whizzing past, adding safety hazards to the dark roads that were not wide.
The gate of Jinhuayuan Community is on Huangyi Road. At 21:30, the taxi driver, Master Wang, drove back to the community. He was very worried about the lack of street LED lamps on the roads around the community. "Let's just talk about the road in front of the gate. You can see a traffic accident in about half a month." Master Wang said that even if he was very familiar with the road conditions, he would drive at a slower speed at night. The reporter saw at the scene that many shared bicycles were parked chaotically on both sides of the dark and narrow road. In order to bypass the bicycle, a pedestrian nearly hit an electric bicycle coming from behind.
South Central Axis Road No light section 10.6 km
The South Central Axis Road, which runs longitudinally through Nancheng, has no road LED lights since it is close to the surrounding sections of Nanyuan Airport. It is understood that the South Central Axis Road is a first-class highway, and currently only the section from Houcha Road to Pang'an is installed with street LED luminaries, and the section without lights is 10.6 kilometers long.
The reporter drove along the South Central Axis Road and found that there are many zebra crossings along the way that can facilitate pedestrians to cross the street, but even these crossing points are not illuminated.
Xingyi Road, which intersects with South Central Axis Road, also has 5.5 kilometers of unlit sections, including Tuanhe Road to Xisan Road, which is about 3.1 kilometers long, and the section from National Highway 104 to Yizhuang Jinmao Mansion, which is about 2.4 kilometers long.
The Fifth Ring Road is expected to be fully illuminated within the year
"In the past, considering the safety of aircraft taking off and landing, it was understandable without street LED fixtures, but now Nanyuan Airport has been suspended for almost two years, and there are more and more communities outside the South Sixth Ring Road. Why are street LED lamps not installed on the surrounding roads as soon as possible?" Citizen Mr. Li said The voices of many surrounding residents have been heard.
Are there plans to install street LED bulbs on these roads? The reporter has learned from many sources that, due to the different nature and grades of the roads, the above four roads are managed by different units.
The reporter learned from the Beijing Urban Road Maintenance Management Center that the project plan and design work for the additional streetlight project in the South Fifth Ring Road section has been completed, and the tender is about to be launched and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year. This means that more than ten years after its completion and opening to traffic, the Fifth Ring Road is expected to achieve full-line lighting this year.
In addition, the reporter learned from the Daxing District Urban Management Committee that the three roads of Xingyi Road, South Central Axis Road, and Huangyi Road are highways and not municipal roads. Affected by factors such as highway construction standards and the navigable illuminance of Nanyuan Airport, some road sections have no LED street luminaries. Currently, the Urban Management Committee of Daxing District is organizing a feasibility study on Xingyi Road (Tuanhe Road to Xisan Road) and Nanzhong Axis Road (Huangyi Road to Xingyi Road). Included in the renovation and overhaul plan.
