Everyone is now using LED lights. Those who have observed carefully will find that LED lights have one characteristic: there is often a radiator at the back of the LED lamp body. Regarding the emphasis on heat dissipation, it has only become popular since the beginning of using LED lamps. Nowadays, no matter how many watts of LED lighting fixtures are, you need to pay attention to heat dissipation.
Why are LEDs afraid of heat?
 
LED is essentially a semiconductor device (a semiconductor is actually a very fragile device). As long as the temperature is slightly higher, its performance will decrease, its life span will be shortened, and it may even be damaged.

In the LED chip, there are various heat conduction media and the bottom radiator, so that the heat emitted by the LED can overflow the inside of the lamp LED body in time, so that the temperature of the LED itself is at a stable low temperature value.

In physics, there are three basic ways of heat conduction, namely conduction, convection and radiation.
 

I. Conduction

First of all, it is conduction. Conduction means that heat will run from a place where the temperature of the object is high along the heat conductor to a part with a lower temperature. The factors that affect it are:

1. Thermal conductivity of heat sink material
2. Thermal resistance caused by heat dissipation structure
3. Shape and size of thermal conductive material

The above three points will affect the speed and efficiency of heat conduction.
 

II. Radiation
Radiation is a phenomenon in which high-temperature objects directly radiate heat outward. Its efficiency depends on the thermal resistance of the surrounding medium and the characteristics of the heat radiating material itself.
 

III. Convection
Convection is the use of gas or liquid flow to take away the heat generated. How to judge the heat dissipation performance?
 
After analyzing the heat dissipation method of
outdoor lighting fixtures, when we get an outdoor lighting product, how do we judge whether its heat dissipation is good or not?

Of course, the easiest and fastest way is to use professional equipment to measure the temperature, and there is another method-called the half-hour illuminance method. Generally speaking, when the junction temperature of the LED (the temperature of the PN junction inside the LED chip is referred to as the junction temperature) increases, the luminous flux will decrease. Then, we only need to indirectly measure the illuminance change of the
outdoor lighting LED fixture at the same position, and then we can infer the change of the junction temperature (just need an illuminance meter to be OK).
