Replacing LEDs in the UK will ban the sale of halogen bulbs from September

Halogen lamps generate more heat, which makes their halogen lamps not as environmentally friendly as LED lamps. Halogen lamps withdraw from the stage of history, which is also the general trend.

News on June 9th, according to media reports, the British government will submit a bill this month, deciding to ban the sale of halogen bulbs from September.

Halogen bulbs are widely used as spotlights in kitchens and living rooms. But starting in 2018, the United Kingdom, which was still a member of the European Union at the time, followed EU regulations and began to gradually reduce the use of halogen bulbs and promote low-energy LED bulbs. At present, LED bulb sales have occupied two thirds of the UK market.

The British government stated that stopping the use of halogen bulbs will reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by 1.26 million tons every year.

Halogen bulbs are very energy-consuming. According to the Energy Saving Trust Fund, an ordinary halogen bulb consumes about 11 pounds of electricity per year, while the replacement LED only consumes 2 pounds. More importantly, halogen bulbs usually fail after about two years of use, while LEDs can last 15 to 20 years under the same usage conditions.

In addition, a 60-watt light bulb emits about 700 lumens of brightness, while a 100-watt light bulb is equivalent to more than 1,300 lumens. But stores still mainly use watts to mark LED lights. An 8.5w "classic" bulb LED is equivalent to a 75w incandescent bulb, and a 13.5w LED is equivalent to a 100w old bulb.
