Most of the street lighting lamps already in use on the market are for some common needs for lighting. Due to the disadvantages of traditional street fixtures: such as serious energy waste, single management means, low level of information technology, lack of active fault alarm mechanism, and difficult to find the location of faulty lights, etc. Intelligent street lamp technology will transform traditional street luminaries. Management departments need more efficient management and energy-saving methods, so as to promote the scientific management and green energy-saving of urban smart lighting at full speed. According to statistics from relevant departments, 400 of the country’s 1,000 cities have adopted the "wireless three remote (remote control, signal shake, and telemetry) intelligent control system" for road lamp control in 400 cities.

Disadvantages of traditional street lights

1. The monitoring and management method is relatively simple:

The traditional system can only achieve loop-level collection and control, and cannot monitor the operation of a single lamp on time and accurately. When a lamp failure occurs, it cannot be fed back to the monitoring center in time, and cannot realize intelligent monitoring and refined management; in addition, it cannot handle faults. Real-time tracking, analysis, and impact on lighting production management.

2. Energy consumption is too large:

Lack of effective and flexible energy-saving control methods, the contradiction between excessive lighting and insufficient lighting is difficult to achieve (i.e. operating according to the image of the city in the first half of the night, and energy-saving lighting in the second half of the night), and it is impossible to achieve on-demand lighting. Therefore, under the premise of ensuring the quality of lighting it effectively reduce energy consumption.

3. Low operation and maintenance efficiency and high cost:

Because the number of
street lights is very large and the distribution is very wide, the current lighting facilities mainly adopt manual patrol mode, the workload is huge, a lot of manpower and material resources are required, and there may be blind spots, low operation and maintenance efficiency, and high cost. It is difficult to achieve proactive services and guarantee service quality. During the maintenance process, the procurement of materials lacks scientific basis, and the increase of inappropriate materials will cause the occupation of funds, and the inability to manage the materials carefully and may cause waste of materials .

4. It is difficult to guarantee the safety of facilities:

Lack of real-time supervision measures, frequent theft or damage of lighting cables and other facilities, causing economic losses to relevant departments, seriously affecting the normal operation of urban lighting, and bringing hidden dangers.


There are two ways of energy-saving transformation of street lamps:

1. The replacement of the existing ordinary street lamping caps is to replace a series of light sources such as ordinary high-pressure sodium lamps or white (yellow) incandescent lamps with new LED light sources.

2. The intelligent transformation of the current ordinary street light poles is to install a single-lamp controller on the existing smart street light poles, which is a new product of the Internet of Things technology. The new single-lamp controller can make the
smart street LED lamp control intelligent, and the dimming and power reduction operation can be made through 0-10v, PWM and other interfaces. It not only improves the overall control of urban street lights and realizes intelligence, but also achieves the purpose of energy saving and emission reduction. Therefore, lighting solutions with obvious secondary energy saving and intelligent management have become a hot spot in LED street lamp management.
