Lighting Science: What does the color rendering index of light affect?

The color rendering index CRI of LED light affects how true people see the color of an object. The higher the color rendering index, the more real the color of the object that people see, that is, the more realistic it is.

The color rendering index of natural light and artificial LED lamps are different. The general color rendering index (Ra) of natural light is 100, the general color rendering index of incandescent lamps and halogen lamps in artificial light sources is around 97, and the general color rendering index of three-primary fluorescent energy-saving lamps Between 80 and 90, the general color rendering index of LED lighting products is lower, between 70 and 90.

But if you really pay attention to the CRI, in addition to the general color rendering index (Ra), you also need to refer to the two indicators of fidelity (Rf) and color saturation (Rg).

Rf = 100 is the maximum value, no color difference with the color under natural light source, and the color effect is vivid.

Rf = 0 is the minimum value, and the color difference with the natural light source is the largest, and the color effect is distorted.

Rg = 100, the saturation of the light source is the same as natural light, and the color saturation is moderate.

Rg > 100, the light source can increase the saturation of the color, and the object looks more vivid and energetic.

Rg < 100, the color saturation will decrease under the test light source, the color saturation is insufficient, and the object will become dark and sluggish.

Under normal circumstances, the LED light source only needs to meet Ra>80, R9>0, and Rf/Rg close to 100, which can meet our daily needs.
